- What we builtLending workspace and borrower portal
Trove Finance funds small South African businesses through invoice discounting and purchase-order finance, and its checks were done by hand. We built its lending workspace and borrower portal: borrowers apply and upload in one place, staff take each deal from intake to settlement, and every decision and payment stays on the record. It is a pilot, tested end to end on sample data.
Two lending products, checked by hand.
Trove Finance funds small South African businesses in two ways, and its operations and FICA checks were done by hand.
A South African lender
Trove Finance funds small businesses in two ways. With invoice discounting, it advances money against an invoice a business is waiting to be paid.
Paying the supplier
With purchase-order finance, it pays the supplier so a business can deliver an order it has won.
Checked by hand
Trove's operations and FICA checks were done by hand. It wanted one system from the first enquiry through to legal documents and collections, with an auditable trail of every check.
- Manual operationsDay-to-day lending work was run by hand.
- Manual checksFICA checks on companies and the people behind them were done by hand.
Invoice discounting and purchase-order finance each need their own documents, checks and counterparties.
FICA checks need an auditable trail for regulatory reporting.
When money moves, every decision and every correction has to be explainable later.
From request to settlement, in one place.
Put every deal on one record, from the funding request to the last rand repaid, so any decision or payment can be explained later.
Every deal, one record

Explained later
That way, any decision or payment can be explained later, whenever money moves.
01
Before: Work out where each deal stands.
Now: Every request in one register, with its stage and next step.

02
Before: Chase each borrower for what is still missing.
Now: The borrower sees which documents are accepted and which are still missing.

03
Before: Check companies and directors by hand.
Now: Record each check with its evidence, a reference and an expiry date.

04
Before: Make the credit call.
Now: Record the decision with its reason, evidence and conditions. It goes stale if the evidence changes.

05
Before: Correct a wrong entry.
Now: Reverse it with a reason. The original stays in the history.

From request to settled.
Staff move each application through 26 defined stages, and the workspace only allows moves that make sense.
Defined stages
Staff move each application through 26 defined stages, and the workspace only allows moves that make sense. Funding, repayment and settlement stages follow the recorded money, not a dropdown.
Decisions go stale
A credit decision needs a reason and an evidence reference, and it goes stale if the evidence behind it changes.
Held to the cent
Money is held to the cent. Every receipt is split explicitly across principal, fees and interest, and a mistake is corrected with a linked reversal, so the original entry never disappears.
Borrower
Start a funding request, add the company, its people and the invoice or purchase order, and upload the documents.
Trove's team
Review each document and record the company, director and owner checks with their evidence.
Trove's team
Record the credit decision with a reason, an evidence reference and any conditions. Approved terms are saved as a version.
Trove FinanceTakes over here
Funding stays blocked until the terms are approved, the signed agreement is checked and every condition is cleared.
Trove's team
Record the payout with its bank reference. For a purchase order, the supplier is paid.
Trove Finance
Each receipt is split across principal, fees and interest, and the balance, schedule and stage follow the money.
One system, two sides.
Two sides of one system: a lending workspace for Trove's team and a portal where borrowers apply, upload documents and follow their request.

Money is held to the cent, and a correction is a linked reversal, never an edit.
Borrowers only ever see their own company's requests, files and statements.
